Introduction
While working as an Instructional Designer at University of Limerick, I created a video guide for lecturers on how to manage course materials and files within the Brightspace VLE.
The Problem
The University of Limerick moved to Brightspace as the institutional VLE, and the VLE project team was tasked with helping lecturers migrate their content from the old VLEs (Sulis and Moodle) to the new system to create their courses on Brightspace.
Content page templates (HTML pages) were provided to the lecturers. However, lecturers would add their own content to these pages (e.g., headings, guidelines, instructions, etc.) and wished to reuse the pages across a number of different Units/Weeks instead of creating them again from scratch.
The Solution
The Brightspace VLE “Manage Files” tool allows instructors to copy and paste files and folders, but it isn’t obvious how these files can be reused across different units. By using the “Course Builder” tool, the content from “Manage Files” can be added to different units.
I created an instructional video to show lecturers how they can use both the Manage Files and Course Builder tools to reuse their own templates across different units.
Below is an excerpt from the video.
